Adam--I've been having clients dialogue with different parts of self for years, especially in individual therapy. I looked at it as a different application of the Encounter. Anyone know what is new with Herman's approach? Patti

Dear All, I've just heard from a friend about a growing new (?) therapy approach called "Dialogical Self Theory," developed by Hubert Hermans in the Netherlands.
It seems to overlap with Moreno's role theory somewhat. I think he tries to get the different parts of the self into dialogue with each other. I'd like to know if anyone has brought these two approaches together, compare and contrast, whatever.
I confess that I work this way, having different parts of myself dialogue with each other and even have my "self" as choosing self sit back and interrogate the various parts. Seems quite natural once you get the feel for it.
