I would suggest you read carefully the book:   "Undue Risks: Secret State Experiments on Humans".  It addresses many things that are of relevance to this conversation.   Do you know the author?   Jonathan D. Moreno, Ph.D.

Macrobiotics has been used for 1000s of years to heal cancer and other conditions without medication.  The approach is rooted in Eastern practice of yin and yang, the two forces of manifestation.  The approach is the foundation of Chinese and Oriental Medicine, including acupuncture and chinese herbal therapy.   It uses food as medicine.

I have benefited from this, in fact it helped to save my life more than once. 
Alternative medicine is a label misnomer.  Alternative suggests an alternative to something, that something being allopathic medicine.
Most real "alternative medicines" are rooted in a different paradigm, not often Western.  I see it as complimentary, or integrative medicine.
