Hi Adam,

I haven't yet had a chance to respond re: tele/rapport (Skiing in  
Japan) but thought there is a plausible connection between the concept  
of tele and this short article from the Scientific American around  
people's immediate responses to photos. That part of tele that is  
immediate and outside conscious awareness. Of course these researchers  
are trying to unravel those responses. And it places tele in a far  
less romantic light as well.
