Dear People:
I desperately need a good psych hospital for my son. He has been in and out
11 times over the past 8 years bipolar 1 and everywhere it is the same,
mickey mouse group sessions, psychiatrists and psychologists who really
don't know how to join really seriously mentally ill people and try to power
or snow patients into complying with their meds and a plan. IT DOESN"T WORK
BUT THAT DOESN"T STOP THEM... Xavier Amador's work does but so few in the
system are trained in it see www.xavieramador.com or
www.leapinstitute.orgPlease
let me know if you know any place that is good and has decent treatment and
follow up afterwards anywhere around New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut,
Pennsylvania. I would take him there if I have to. He is on the verge of
coming apart again just having been literally discharged from one of the
worst facilities, St. Vincent's hospital in New York City REISS 3 unit under
the direction of Oscar Ramos, M.D. whose license to practice I am going to
go after. It is the hospital nearest us and Sam actually directed the
ambulance and police to take him there after I called the police to
hospitalize him as he was fully manic and a real danger to himself though
not to others. Ramos told my son that if he continued to act up, he would
put him out on the street. That is what he did 3 years ago resulting in my
son being back in Bellevue for 3 months. Sam said to that, "Well, that's
easy, I'll just act out cause I want to get out of this hell hole. After
my pleading with Ramos, he reversed it to saying that if Sam was a good boy,
after 5 days fully manic with psychotic features telling them that he would
refuse to continue to take meds when he is out, Ramos said that he would
then discharge Sam which is what Sam wanted. THis was done and now, Sam is a
mess changing his mind about things from moment to moment, mood changing
etc. We are about to tell him that he cannot live in his mother's apartment
as he has been doing all his life, if he does not take his meds, He will
have to go to a shelter. Sam is a kind loving incredibly talented Pianist,
keyboard artist and composer who under the name Shnabubula ) google search
comes up with over 85,000 pages about him and his breakthrough piece on the
"Kind of Bloop" album got him an interview by Time Magazine on the Internet
in which he was misquoted which drove Sam over the top as he became more and
more disturbed about all of it contacting people everywhere to try to let
them know that he had been misquoted. He stopped sleeping, took no meds, ate
tons of sugar and split apart becoming more and more agitated and going out
in the middle of the night insulting people on the street challenging them
to be fixed by him or get the F... away. He has never attacked anyone
physically in his life, and he has been totally provocative during these
manic episodes.\
Any thoughts and suggestions re good treatment hospitals would be
appreciated. I don't have enough money for Sam to be in a place like
Windhorse which we looked at some time ago. It has to be a hospital that
accepts medicare and medicaid.
thanks, Bud
