Joe Romance did a wonderful training on sharing at the conference several years ago. It took a look at different types of faulty sharing and how the director can intervene to get it back on track. The best part was all these psychodramatists taking on the roles of unruly group members. There was a lot of laughing. I really miss him. I haven't seen many psychodramatists who don't allow for sharing. It is the third essential part of the psychodrama session. It can be a challenge to manage, especially when one doesn't have several hours for the group. One of the questions that always comes up has to do with how much sharing is helpful to the protagonist...sometimes in large groups they can get overwhelmed and so one needs to find creative ways to allow for group sharing at the same time protect the protagonist. This is why we sometimes invite sharing in small groups, rather than as a whole group, once the protagonist has heard from several people. Other concerns have to do with the person who uses sharing to tell the entirety of their story and then ends up getting extremely warmed up as the group is closing. Or the group member who uses the sharing time to process their own experience in a lengthy monologue which creates separation from the protagonist rather than connection.
