Good points. I'd add again that a not-insignificant corollary of the New York city point is that there are just a lot more people who (a) are studying psychodrama in that town; (b) or relatives of people where one can stay; and this student source supplies a significant number.
The idea of negotiating with the drama therapists might aslo be explored as the economy tightens and also increasing numbers of drama therapists also are doing psychodrama and vice versa.
Just ideas for the hopper.

It would be useful to open it to an input from all the membership,to hear about their preferences, and discuss all the pros and cons..
The Conference in the Catskills, some 20 years ago was an innovation, that was not a big success.
During the years when ASGPP meetings were held in New York City, annually, much due to Siroka's Institute's efforts, the attendance was large
1. historical timing - humanistic Psychology meetings were attracting large crowds too.
2. Places like NYC,San -Fran have a draw for participants on a budget as an occassion to visit a place that is culturallyu exciting etc. In large cities there are "y"s ,hostels, etc to accommodate lesser budget.
It would be informative to compare the attendence in NYC,SanFran in recent years to attendence in other places.
A thought.

I wonder if the ASGPP membership has advanced enough in becoming techno-savvy that a fair number---a quorum---could be addressed in an e-blast to the membership (I think that's been done on occasion)? That's different from grouptalk---apparently only a modest number of ASGPP members participate in this forum (the online listserve---even fewer apparently participate in the ASGPP "Forum")---
But it might be a good way to ask the questions about timing, and the reasons for preference.
Certainly the idea of seeking venues that cost less has merit, though it must also be weighed against the cost of
- a location that will be difficult (time-wise) and costly (paying the bus/taxi) to get to
- a lack of a place where some folks may be able to commute from home or stay with friends
- the access to a modest range of affordable foods
etc.
Warmly, Adam

When Mario Cossa and I were on the council we brought this up (7 to 8 years ago) . One of the legitimate concerns is that conferences in July and August don't seem to draw as many folks as ones in the spring, at least in the US, HOWEVER, there is no reason we can't plan our conference for mid to late May or even early June, shortly after the colleges have finished their spring semesters.
And as one of those trainers for whom this might interfere with summer programs....hey, if we don't increase attendance at the conferences, people won't become and stay connected to psychodrama in the first place and that will really interfere with our programs.
Also, it may come as a shock to us, but the purpose of the ASGPP conference is NOT to fill our training programs but to promote psychodrama.

Dear Colleagues,
We want to advise you that we have requested that the following agenda item be placed on the agenda
for the ASGPP Annual Meeting. This is in response to the ASGPP President's call for agenda items in
the last PNN.
Respectfully submitted,
Edward Schreiber
Rosalie Minkin
Please include the following item for the agenda for the Annual Meeting:
In our work with Antony Williams at an Annual Meeting some years ago we the heard voices from students and many new members asking for a National Conference to take place at a college campus so that affordability was a priority.
From that discussion some years ago, concerns emerged that such a change would impact the financial viability of trainers who offer summer training. And yet our reliance on hotels has diminished the attendance of our National Conferences. In addition, the Conference format has remained a cultural conserve. Our European colleagues in the IAGP Summer Academy in Granada Spain have advanced a conference model. In this model extensive training is provided.
We propose that a working group be formed now, to establish a 2011 Conference at a college campus with a redesign of a conference format. The formation of a working group be formed now to begin with a review of the IAGP Summer Academy's format, and a college campus based 2011 Conference.
Respectfully submitted,
Edward Schreiber
