Yes, Facebook and Linked In are two sites that have great potential for people to see what is going on. I have made many connections  related to Playback within Facebook- It actually has surprised me a bit. Many people annouce things (like the conference) and groups that they want t o support and performances to go to.
For people who live in differing countries, it is an easy networking medium. The sociometric aspects of it is quite interesting. People are connecting  and there is a closeness-    and yet, not, as it is still a computer you are in front of- 

And then it is Facebook. It comes with it, a bit of drivel....

Linked in Is lesser known, and more professional. Im not sure if people outside the states have access to it. However, I have felt that to be important for me as a way to build connections with those I might not think of.

So I would say yes-the potential is there.
