I participated in a puppet show this weekend. A rabbi friend with a passion for environmental issues and puppetry asked me to collaborate, on a story she wrote from Bible with interpretations for saving the environment, and climate change project she is promoting in the local community. Never been part of puppet show before.
It was such great fun!
I helped her tweak different parts of it to enhance audience participation to dialogue with the main puppet, which people did quite a bit. This was with an adult audience. I also took on voices of 5 different characters and a few different roles with props and smaller puppets...things we never had time to work all out in detail together. Expanding on them was just like auxiliary work. It was an easy segue from psychodrama to puppetry. And our first show was a spontaneity test, as we never did have a complete rehearsal! It went well, with some glitches to work out. As the "not ready for prime-time" show develops, we hope to work toward more dialoguing within the group, and perhaps time and space to maybe have audience in role play. Will see how it evolves.
I cannot remember the last time I had so much fun doing a volunteer activity!
