Re: writing for journal or websiteDear Martin--I enjoyed reading your thoughts on this topic of ethical considerations and I shall keep them in mind as we move through the workshop on the 21st. Thanks for connecting and I'll be back after the workshop with some thoughts hopefully. . Regards, Patti

  Hi Patti
Thank you Adam. I too am interested in what you are doing Patti and would read anything put forward by others in this area. Were I nearby I'd be at the workshop with skates on. The warm up to create something myself builds!

Of course there is great room for this kind of exploration in our community, and in the wider circles we inhabit of our professional lives, and like you have been inspired Patti, our method is a great way to explore ethical dilemmas, issues, notions of boundary, consequences etc. One factor central to ethical thinking is role reversal, and thus the widening of our perspectives and systemic understandings. What emerges in the workshop is appealing- what you go in with to begin it, how it develops, what is produced.

Questions come to mind for me around the area of ethical practices etc in group work/ group psychotherapy, and the differences from the one to one relationship.

What about with adolescent clients/ group members etc -say a 14 year old disclosing partner abuse in a group setting

Do we think differently about and thus act differently in regard to ethics or boundaries or professional helping relationships than our psychoanalytic cousins, family therapists, psychologists, social workers etc. - e.g. Self disclosure, touch, dual relationship as you mention.

What about the differences between supervisory, training, or collegial or client relationships?

The relatively smaller nature of our community, especially here in NZ and Australia of which I am familiar, leads to ever present dual and multiple relationships which can create real hindrances and also great potential benefits (for both parties). There is potential for harm and potential for joy.

How can we develop our role responsiveness/spontaneity to be thoughtful practitioners in an ethical world rather than rule bound automatons (and in so doing build or reduce this in others.) What is black and white and what is grey?

These amongst other things Patti I would bring to the workshop in my warm-up..."i'm ready for a drama!"

....and following Adam, can we share our work with each other to build upon and then upon and then upon....

All the best from sunny NZ

  Martin Putt

Hi Patti, these are interesting programs. If there is anyone in your group / team / students who might function in the role of note-taker / amanauensis / writing up high points of these programs, this in turn could be turned into some papers that would be of use to the community.
What issues come up as you do these sessions? What do the doubles discover? (i.e., what are the hidden attitudes that get brought to the surface in various predicaments?)
What techniques have been found to be more or less useful in warming up or processing various kinds of problems?

These and other questions continue to be alive in my mind as I ponder the state of the field. Issues of consensus, differences of style, and the like have rarely been discussed openly, with the specifics identified.
I've been writing about the history of medicine (papers on my website) and the progress of a field of endeavor continues to impress me with how many different aspects need to be aligned in order to develop the field professionally.

While your announcement is the occasion for this email, really, this email is addressed equally to the whole psychodrama community, encouraging everyone to do likewise.

          Good wishes, Warmly, Adam
