Dear Bud.

Sorry it took so long to respond.

So true: Moreno had the gift of empowering others to carry his vision. He did that to me: my carreer and professional confidence as atherapist/psychodrama director would have not evolved the way they did were it not for his "blessings" to me upon "graduation": to follow my creativity, and not worry about any rules(implying: his),

Seems that many did just that , evolved some of his ideas into a main dish without recognizing the progemnitor of the ideas.

Now the Question is: would he be bitter knowing that people took without acknowledgement, that their names are more familiasr than his,or just as he let "The Words of the Father "to be published anonimously -and in linewith his belief that we are all Gods -smile and say: the sun does not ask to be acknowledged for every morsel of food we eat.

Is it something we need ,rather than he?

warmly,

anath

I haven't been saying much for a while and felt somehow moved to chime in here. In my experience, Dr. Moreno essentially gave his gifts away in a kind of replay of what he did with THE WORDS OF THE FATHER which as you all know was originally published anonymously for many reasons.

He was, in my experience, incredibly generous around this support of people striking out on their own. At one point, I was astonished as he offered to give me the right to claim the copy write or patent to Psychodrama when I was working at developing a radio show using psychodrama on the air. He was quite lucid at that moment and was simply wanting to fuel my journey in the most powerful way. In conversations that I have had over the years with others of that time and before, he was constantly doing just that. Pushing you out into the world with his blessings to carry the ball over the next goal line.

Paraphrasing what Eric Berne once said that everyone in the action or group or even just therapy fields owed a debt to Moreno and were subject to being jealous of Moreno as he has always been there first with the mostest. I think that is what has often been disturbing to me in that people have too often and for various reasons not given Moreno Credit for what he contributed. Berne was marvelously generous in his statements and at the time he made them, Berne's work and his method and organization was riding on one of the highest waves to be sure. I remember him repeating them at the 4th International Congress of Group Psychotherapy in Vienna in 1968 where Berne's group had the main stage and was the most prominent in that world congress.

In my experience, similar to what Milton Erickson often said, "You are not doing Ericksonian Hypnosis! "No one other than myself can do Ericksonian Hypnosis. You are doing Bud Weiss Hypnosis etc." I have watched many of the highly acknowledged psychodramatists over the years and have seen a wide range of approaches in their sessions. It is the very nature of the work that it is spontaneous and open to creative extra and super reality that makes it so thrilling while having at its base a most rigorous theoretical and mathematical structure from which or through which we are free to wander.

And so, we are all doing our own versions of psychodrama, Sociodrama, sociometry, role playing, theory, spontaneity training etc. regardless of who trained us or what tests we took or what we may call it in the final analysis. It is what we do and we simply owe a huge debt which should be regularly acknowledged to our ancestors and mentors in the field and of course, Moreno was one of the Giants and Zerka took on the mantle so powerfully to be sure the magic continued to be transferred from close at home.
Blessings all, Bud

Thanks Ed for sharing this forward. I so agree with Robert that there are more similarities than differences between the two disciplines. I also see that Drama Therapists work in different ways. Some practioners are more actively into psychodrama than others.

Again, I look forward to a time and a way that we can work together formally and informally to grow our field. And I continue to look to Zerka as a beautiful role model and mentor psychologically and spiritually to help us midwife a rebirth in this regard.

Blessings,
Saphira
