Ah, Bud, have you read the two papers posted by Karen Carnabucci and Ron Anderson, posted on a website? I think I announced it to grouptalk. There have been also some serious criticisms of Hellinger and his approach. That adds to my wariness about the mystique that someone else, by virtue of his position in a family sculpture, can "feel" the right things to say.
This speaking from the position in a family sculpture is interesting, but perhaps partakes of interpretations from the outside, and also the phenomenon of "unhelpful overgeneralizations"---that phenomenon whereby relatively non-specific terms sort of apply to anyone. (Paper on this genre of psychobabble on my website). The group pressure and knowing "this interpretation is for you" idea can be subtly intimidaing even as the subject senses a mixture of "yes, rings a bell"---- and many interpretations have this partly-true quality---and "but somehow it doesn't fit."

Well, who else in our community explores the advantages, disadvantages, etc.
Do the people you recommend partake of or distance themselves from Hellinger and his own approach? Warmly,ADam

It's great to have you in here mixing it up again James. Hopefully we'll get a good limerick soon. I love your idea.

I would expand it a bit and ask that there be a transgenerational Constellation done with each of the 4 having a constellation ala the work of John L Payne see www.johnlpayne.com or Francesca Mason Boring see www.allmyrelationsconstellations.com . each of them could select 3 or 4 persons from their social atom who they would like to be there to assist them as the group resources for the knowing field. That would be so moving if it could be video taped and would open up so much healing for people all over the world. A friend of mine whose family background is KKK has become one of the leading people in the US bringing Dr. Malidoma Some's Dagara Culture of West AFrica here - www.malidoma.com and it has been so healing for those involved coming to our village www.eastcoastvillage.org I have conducted some psychodrama type sessions there as part of grief rituals and ancestralization.
A few years ago, I led a workshop at the psychodrama convention in San Francisco using the Dagara Grief ritual in a psychodrama context and those attending were amazed at the power of ritual in that context. I wonder if others have used ritual specifically in the psychodrama context. Actually, psychodrama itself is ritual.

Constellation work of course owes a great deal to psychodrama and Hellinger acknowledges this. However, even more is owed to the great ancestral traditions of Africa. No one can be left out without consequence and so the healing needs to be for everyone in the long run. I have appreciated the efforts of Ron Anderson and Karen Carnabucci to explicate the similarities and differences between psychodrama and constellations and have been in the process of attempting to add to their wonderful efforts in this regard.

I am sponsoring a Constellation workshop with Francesca Mason Boring in the Berkshires at the end of this month. She is from the Shoshone tradition and is a powerful spiritual presence having contributed much to the Constellations field. I am attaching the flyer as well as her article, Constellation as Ceremony, written for the international Journal of Constellations, Knowing Field

  Be well, blessings, Bud Weiss

I had very similar fantasies about what could happen if role reversal could have happened at that encounter within the kind of context you were talking about. There is an ancient spiritual teaching that says that if you envision something very clearly, then it has more possibility of manifesting. Why not?
