The International Expressive Arts Therapy Association (which includes psychodrama and
drama therapy) is planning its next international conference on August 12-15, 2009, in
Cambridge, Massachusetts (in association with Lesley University there).

The IEATA invites you to be part of an inspiring, exciting, international gathering,
as expressive arts therapists, expressive arts educators and consultants, expressive
artists, activists, and innovators from around the world converge in Cambridge,
Massachusetts, to celebrate the journey of Expressive Arts in
Social Action: Peace-ing Our World Together. IEATA is an international professional
association dedicated to the integrative use of the arts for transformation and change.
The conference will feature programming in several venues, designed to connect
participants to the vibrant Cambridge community, the larger community of expressive arts
modalities, a rich academic community, and the global community. Pre-conference offerings
will span the social, community service, and academic arenas, and a post-conference slate
of workshops will be featured. This 8th International Conference of IEATA will coincide
with the Lesley University Centennial Celebration.

Peace-ing the Discourse Together: Call for Proposals
The 2009 IEATA Conference program will include more than 40 concurrent presentations
and workshops—you can be one of them! In keeping with our theme, Expressive Arts in
Social Action: Peace-ing Our World Together, proposals should focus on the transformative
power of the arts for:
· Breaking down cultural barriers and misperceptions
· Encouraging community participation and growth
· Providing opportunities for empowerment and social change/healing
· Promoting social justice locally and internationally

Hardcopy proposals will NOT be accepted. The deadline for proposal submission is Friday,

Conference highlights · Two-day pre-conference expressive arts-based social action
project (Monday and Tuesday, August 10–11)
· Pre- and post-conference presenters offering full and half-day workshops
· Presentations from pioneers and innovators in the expressive arts fields, such as:
Natalie Rogers, Kyoko Ono, Shaun McNiff, Nina (Anin) Utigaard, Vivien Marcow-Speiser and
Phillip Speiser, RAW Art Works, Kate Powers, Keren Shechter and Yousef Al-Aljarma, Sally
Atkins and the Appalachian Expressive Arts Collective, Stephen and Ellen Levine, Graciela
Bottini, and Expressive Arts Florida.
· Keynote presentation by Robert and Dicki Macy, pioneers in the field of traumatic
incident stress interventions and violence prevention initiatives that utilize the
expressive arts. They are the executive director and creative director, respectively, of
the Boston Center for Trauma Psychology
· Lesley University Centennial Celebration featuring performance by Stan Strickland and
Express Yourself
· Banquet at the Sheraton Commander Hotel, conveniently located adjacent to Cambridge
Common
Location Cambridge, Massachusetts, just across the Charles River from Boston, is renowned
for its prestigious schools, rich cultural resources, diverse
population, and an extraordinary array of sights and attractions—from parks to restaurants
to museums. Cambridge's vibrant Harvard Square area will provide the backdrop for the 2009
IEATA Conference, which will be hosted by the pioneering Expressive Therapy program at
Lesley University, and which will take
place at Lesley University's modern urban campus and at the historic First Church Parish,
located in Harvard Square. Lodging will be available at Lesley University and the historic
Sheraton Commander hotel.
