Position: The Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology at Mississippi State University seeks a highly qualified assistant/associate professor with a balanced dedication to research, teaching, and service in the area of community/clinical mental health counseling. The individual selected will serve a nine-month, tenure-track appointment beginning fall semester 2009 and will teach community/clinical mental health courses as well as courses in the CACREP core areas. Part-time summer teaching is contingent on student demand and funding.

The Program: The department offers M.S., Ed.S., and Ph.D. degrees in counseling. Programs in community, college, school, and student affairs are accredited by CACREP. The M.S. in rehabilitation counseling is accredited by CORE. 

Qualifications: The candidate should have experience as a community/clinical mental health counselor with potential for research and a commitment to excellence in teaching. The candidate should hold a doctorate in counseling or counselor education from a CACREP accredited program. ABD’s will be considered with the expectation their degree is awarded by start of employment. For an appointment at the Associate level, evidence of excellence in scholarly achievement (e.g., research, publications, and presentations); and demonstrated potential for leadership in community/clinical mental health counseling also is necessary. Candidates should meet the qualifications for licensure as a Professional Counselor and Board Qualified Supervisor in Mississippi. 

Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: (1) teaching courses in CACREP core and counseling specialty areas; (2) providing clinical supervision to master’s and doctoral level students; (3) producing a focused line of research leading to publications in refereed journals and to extramural funding; (4) serving on doctoral committees and advising/mentoring students; (5) working with faculty in the Counseling Program and with those entities affiliated with the program; and (6) participating actively in professional organizations and university committees.
