Sociatric Practices of the Method

Ed and others in this discussion,
I have been participating fully in this conversation and enjoying it very
much, although have found it problematic to work out when and how I might
contribute. I work in organizations using Morenian methods with groups and
individuals and am appreciating this discussion because the ideas being
discussed are underlying foundations for practice for us and are rarely
articulated openly, and certainly not with clients; although the work we do
I would openly name as sociatry.
I too would love to read more on this. I also wonder if it's a two way
process you describe. That is, also working in the other direction..
re-organising the sociometry in turn affects the 'autonomous healing centre'
leading to an experience of the godhead (and an expansion of an individuals
role system). Perhaps this explains that 'thing' which we all have
experienced at some time when working/playing/praying together, where we
have an experience of the whole being greater than the sum of the parts.
Cheers
Grace

Hi Cynthia,
Much thanks for your wise sense of things.
Although I use more Morenean terms, we are saying much the same -
As all this unfolds in the conserve we are living in, this sharing with one
another, this forming a community of practitioners is vital. Your
contributions have always caught my heart - much much thanks!

Ed,
I love what you are describing here. This Awakened or Awakening Force, or
Presence, is what spiritual directors tune into and guide from when
companioning others on their spiritual path. Many do this through a silent
contemplative process (a different kind of focus than meditation).
Currently, using expressive arts in spiritual direction are a leading edge
in the field. Both in psychodrama and spiritual direction, one follows what
I call the Divine Flow. Spontaneity and Creativity are the outward
manifestations of this Divine Flow. Spiritual directors, who use what is
called the contemplative evocative method, follow the internal movement of
this Divine Flow....and also look to the movement toward or away from this
Divine Flow in the patterns in one's life.
Where spiritual directors, or other spiritual practitioners, do not have
skills is understanding what I call the movement of God between us.
Spiritual direction done in groups is an individual process in a group
setting, with feedback from others. Many spiritual folks want to live and
teach living our highest spiritual ideals in how to treat others, yet don't
have skills of how to get there when it comes to life in the complexity of
groups, and thus in healing society.
I am very intrigued with what you are saying about how the process of
healing and connection to the Godhead impacts then sociometric connections
in groups. I know that is the core of psychodrama, yet you have much to
offer in illuminating greater understanding on sociometry and sociatry. I
know you are leading workshops on this. I also encourage you to write about
his extensively. I would love to read about this and get more detail and
understanding!
Godspeed,
Cynthia Gayle

Dear Ivo,
I
I want to print this out and think about it, add my thoughts to your work
and organization
we - you mostly - are really onto something
much of what an apprentice from a school is doing with me now he is
taking the sociatric theories of Moreno, what he saw when he looked into the
world
and he is making them into formulas
what is mind-blowing is that we are
seeing the entire theory, all of it, method, theory, philosphy, techniques
all of Moreno
encoded into 3 codes
in other words, each code is 1/3 of a whole theory
the 3 codes, which is the whole theory, are pictures he drew to represent a
whole part of the entire body of knowledge he left to us
it is the interface and sequencing of the 3 coded pictures that is the most
important - each sequence is different and is a whole other
way of applying the method
but here is the issue:
the method is fundamentally about unlocking the psyche to an encounter
directly with the Godhead
and then
stabilizing it within the being as an "autonomous healing center"
and
then AS THIS HAPPENS this autonomous healing center emerges in a group and
reorganizes the sociometry in such a way it illuminates first the
sociodynamic effect to the group and then - it reorders the sociodynamic
effect into circles within the group, different ways of forming circles,
which returns members to a role within a circle of life and returns life -
to the circle.
This is all happening in a group that I am working with at Lesley University
in which I am finding-feeling-seeing myself "being directed by an Awakened
or Awakening Force moving in me and directing me" which is what Zerka has
taught happens to her, and now I know directly what this is about and now
Lesley students are starting to feel this and begin to form cognition
(language, expression, creativity) around the experience they are beginning
to have. The most advanced students are women of color.
So, I welcome lots of conversation now and before I teach in Portugal.

Quite a challenge Ed!
This quote by Moreno is so deep that I have to add other elements of the Ken
Wilber's integral theory to the quadrants, namely levels, lines, states and
types. In all quadrants there are levels, lines, states and types.
<file:///C:\DOCUME~1\b17720\LOCALS~1\Temp\msohtml1\06\clip_image002.gif>
For example, in the upper left, levels could be the evolving self from birth
(e.g. pre-personal, personal, trans-personal) and lines (e.g. the multiple
intelligences of the human beings - see Howard Gardner - like the cognitive
intelligence, spatial capabilities, morals, ethics and so on). Types are the
horizontal differences, personality types, etc. States could be moods, but
it is often used with reference the various types of spiritual experiences.
In the lower left we have the same 4 elements but with different
characteristics, levels of cultural development since the birth of humanity,
different types of cultures, and so.
For me when Moreno says "The discovery that human society has an actual,
dynamic, central structure
underlying and determining all its peripheral and formal groupings may one
day
be considered as the cornerstone of all social science." - I feel he found
with his large vision these same 4 quadrants, this same dynamic, diversity,
that is shared by all human beings at a deeper level. I see the point from
which the 4 quadrant arrows develop as the big bang or the ever present
origin from where we all were born.
"This central structure - once it has been identified - is either found or
discernible in every form of human
society, from the most primitive to the most civilized." - the levels in all
quadrants.
"It exerts a determining influence upon every sphere in which the factor of
human interrelations is an active agent - in economics, biology, social
pathology, politics, government and similar spheres of social action." - All
quadrants, all levels, all lines, all states, all types.
Best wishes,
Ivo

Ivo,
How would you work with this quote, using the 4 Quadrants?
The discovery that human society has an actual, dynamic, central structure
underlying and determining all its peripheral and formal groupings may one
day
be considered as the cornerstone of all social science. This central
structure -
once it has been identified - is either found or discernible in every form
of human
society, from the most primitive to the most civilized: it is the genesis of
every type
of society. In addition, it exerts a determining influence upon every
sphere in which
the factor of human interrelations is an active agent - in economics,
biology, social
pathology, politics, government and similar spheres of social action.
JL Moreno
How would we "deconstruct" this quote and move it into the 4 quadrants? I
would be
interested in working together on that!
