Dear Colleagues:
I hope that in some way while giving thanks for all you have been given which is always and every day appropriate, you will observe this day of National Mourning for the Indigenous people of this land misnamed after a drunken ne'er do well who lied about it which lies sold thousands of papers back on the Continent which Rupert Murdock would have loved.
We have been given an incredible gift which I never expected to see in my life time in the election of Barack Obama with all his faults and blessings. Now more than ever, we must tell the truth and ask for forgiveness and compensate in various ways, those our predecessors have oppressed and from whose oppression, many of us continue to benefit financially though at a terrible spiritual loss.
Only this past year in Australia, the government there apologized to their aboriginal people without compensation I might add for something that we actually in some ways continue to do in this country having done it for hundreds of years now in terms of the way we have treated the indigenous people of these lands. It is the greatest Genocide in history with estimations of the deaths of between 60 and 200 million of the native people who populated this land before the Europeans came, let alone the rape of the land itself in the process.
It is as it had to be and now, we can turn it all around and recapture or perhaps for the first time in the history of "civilization" really bend the arc of the universe toward real justice and through that peace for the millennia to come. And first, as a real beginning as in any good therapy, we must allow the truth to be told. I have attached a small portion of that truth about this day called Thanksgiving.
Blessings, Bud
